Register now for a wealth of virtual learning opportunities

Whether you’re dreaming of DJing or just want to make a good graph in Excel, whether you’re desperate to make your website or curious about virtual reality or 3D printing, the NC State University Libraries offers a wide variety of workshops this spring 2021 semester

Open to all members of the NC State community, Libraries workshops are free and require no previous experience, although pre-registration is required. Basic orientation workshops give you access to Libraries spaces such as the Digital Media Rooms at Hill and Hunt, and the Makerspace and VR Studio at Hill.

Check out the workshops we offer in the following areas:

Data and Visualization
Data and Visualization workshops introduce participants to data analysis and visualization concepts and methods and tools such as Python, R, Tableau, and ArcGIS. This semester, virtual workshops will cover topics such as “Getting started with Python,” “Online Mapping Tools,” and “MATLAB Hands-On Virtual Labs.”

Digital Scholarship
In our Digital Scholarship workshops, you can learn the basics of copyright and licensing for research, explore new forms and formats of publishing, and take deep dives into the principles and practices of open science, open education, and digital humanities. Possible workshops may include: Rights, Permissions, and Licensing for Research Outputs, Publishing R focused books with BookDown, Introduction to Open Pedagogy, and more.

Makerspace
Makerspace workshops offer chances to learn the basics of 3D printing, 3D design, sewing, electronics, the Internet of Things and more. Some titles this semester include “Getting Started with 3D Printing,” “Prototyping Electronics with Arduino,” and “Sewing Basics.” Our online Makerspace orientation gives you access to the Hill Library Makerspace during open hours.

Peer Scholars Program
Peer Scholars workshops are run through the NC State University Libraries and led by postdoctoral scholars and graduate students with specific research skills, including (but not limited to) design, programming, analytics, immersive technologies, visualization, and data analytics. Workshops this semester include “A Gentle Introduction to Network Analysis in R,” “Introduction to Social Network Analysis Series,” “NSF: Graduate Research Fellowship Program Application Bootcamp,” and more.

Research Strategy
In Research Strategy workshops, participants will learn about tools and techniques for conducting and measuring the impact of research, managing citations, and the IRB process. Research Strategy workshops this semester include “Communicating your research using impact metrics,” “Citation Management with RefWorks,” “IRB Basics: An Intro to the IRB Process at NC State,” and more.

Virtual & Augmented Reality
The Libraries’ Virtual and Augmented Reality workshops introduce you to VR/AR illustration and programming as well as 3D scanning. VR/AR workshops this semester include “Getting Started with webVR,” "Creating Virtual Realities From Home,” and more.
